Finnish nightmares compared to Swiss nightmares

Finnish nightmares compared to Swiss nightmares

Finnish nightmares are series of funny comics created by Finnish artist Karoliina Korhonen. The comics are about real "horror stories" for the anti-social Finns. Finns are well know as very introverted and shy personalities. A famous Finnish joke says that a introverted Finn looks at his shoes when talking to you whereas an extroverted Finn looks at your shoes - which shows a lot about the Finnish behavior. The comics shows lots of socially awkward situations that all Scandinavian people and introverts will relate to.

There are also a lot of jokes about Swiss people. Most of them are about Switzerlands size, money or that Swiss people are such precise people. I want to make a comment to following Finnish nightmares and compare those situations with Swiss behavior.

I made this experience as well in Turku; it's true that Finns while waiting for the bus love to have their "private space". I recognized that I also acted like this during my time in Turku. Whereas, in Switzerland people don't care about their personal space. Especially in big cities, such as Zurich or Luzern where a lot of commuter have to pass the train stations and a lot of people wait for a train or bus, you sometimes feel like you are standing in a queue for a concert because of the lack of space between all commuter. Swiss people are kind of selfish and we usually hate rainy days; that's the reason why situations like in this comic would never happen in Switzerland.

This is one of my favorite comics. I totally see myself in this comic. In Switzerland, it's totally common to hug, kiss and stay close to acquaintances. The first month in Finland I really missed this situations as well and I recognized that Finns never do it. In this case Swiss people and Finns are very different.

This situation is very common as well in Switzerland. I think nowadays, commuters just want to have some time for themselves and enjoy it not to talk during the travels. It's often seen that everyone in the public transport is listening to music or watching into the smartphone or newspaper to signalize others as well that they don't want to talk. If you are sitting next to someone else, you have to talk. In addition, you have less space if someone else is sitting next to you. This situation is very similar to Switzerland.

Swiss people are very precise most of the time. Money is also very important to the majority. We also hate being in debt. If we have to pay the bill in a restaurant sometimes it's almost a fight about who is going to pay the bill.
